Boat Activity 1/3

This week, for distance learning I am focusing on a boat project. Though I just use the videos here to keep track of privacy settings for the video and to make sure they are still able to be viewed, i liked boats being used as my provocation so I will share a little more in depth as to what i did.

Each week for distance learning, I make videos that focus on a different learning aspect. This weeks provocation was boats. Each day of the week I make a different video shining light on a different aspect. For example, Monday- literacy, Tuesday- math, Wednesday- fine motor, Thursday- Science, Friday- movement.

Below, I will share the math portion of my boat curriculum. The friends were tasked with thinking about materials they can find around their house they could use to construct a boat. After collecting the items, they were tasked with making a list and measuring each of the items they were to use. On my curriculum board I added questions such as “What does sink/ float" mean?”, Which materials are the longest? etc. In doing this, the friends could become more familiar with number recognition, and other mathematical concepts like length, geometry, and texture.
