Store Fronts

Wherever I go I like to look for cute, trendy, interesting store fronts. While I was in Japan, here are a few that caught my eye. They are so interesting to look at and draw you in so you want to go inside!

Pokemon!

When I was in Sapporo, I was walking around the airport killing time before my flight and look what I found. It was a whole store filled with Pokemon things. I was surprised to see how many people were browsing around in there. I took a few pictures of the ones I think are cutest. Which do you like?

Shelter In Place Activity #2

What you need to make the rainbow walking water science project:

  • 6 mason jars

  • food coloring

  • paper towels

  • timer

  • paper and pencils

Fill three jars full of water. Add red food coloring t o one, blue to another, and yellow to another. Go over the color wheel before starting. Show the kids how mixing colors will create different colors. However, don’t tell them how to make the rainbow! Let the children discuss how they will make a rainbow from just three colors. It will take them a little bit to determine the right combination.

If the children are stuck you can help them out by reminding them what colors are together in a rainbow. Put an empty jar between red and yellow, yellow and blue, and blue and red. Have the children roll the paper towels in to tube-like pieces and put one end in a full jar and the other end in an empty jar.

The paper towels will start soaking up the water right away, but it will take about 48 hours before the process is finished. Set a timer to find out exactly how long it takes to start mixing colors. children can write down the time they guess it will take and then the actual time it took.

2. Design two open-ended questions that you would ask the children to extend their learning . For example;

  • How long do you think it will take for the colors to start showing up in the paper towels?

  • What is your favorite color?

  • What do you think will happen if we add more food coloring or more water?

  • What two colors make _______?

Have fun with it!

Sapporo Beer Museum

During my trip to Japan, I got to visit the Sapporo Beer Museum in Sapporo, Hokkaido. Honestly, not much of a beer drinker, but I thought it would be cool to see where the beer was made and to learn about the history. One cool thing about the museum is that it is free. It’s easily assessable from the main train station by bus, and I went during winter time so it was beautiful. I enjoyed seeing all of the advertisements throughout the years and how they have changed, I also thought it is cool how they have an exclusive beer only in Sapporo. Just for posterity, I had to try a flight of their beers. Still didn’t care for it, but had to say I’ve tried the beers where they are actually made,.
